Project Overview
Envevo proudly delivered an EV hub at the White Cart Road forecourt in Paisley, near Glasgow Airport, for our esteemed client, Motor Fuel Group (MFG). The project was executed within stringent forecourt safety guidelines and limited space constraints, ensuring minimal disruption to the operations of the 24-hour BP fuel stations on site. Despite these challenges, we successfully provided market leading public charging infrastructure installing 8 x 150kW charging stations beside the M8 motorway entrance. The EV hub at Glasgow Airport marks a significant step forward in supporting sustainable transportation and addressing the growing demand for public charging facilities in the region.
Brief
Our brief for this project was to establish a new electrical connection to supply an EV charging hub for the MFG EV Power network. Key tasks included the design of a new electrical infrastructure, delivering project management, offsite civil excavations, build and installation of the EV hub and canopy, ensuring a comprehensive and integrated solution.
Challenges
The project faced several challenges, including the hazards of working on a forecourt, navigating tight site spacing, managing complex third-party wayleave negotiations, and meeting nightshift work requirements. Additionally, traffic management was a significant challenge due to the necessary excavation location on Sanderling Road, a main road connecting the motorway to the airport. Despite these obstacles, Envevo successfully overcame them by leveraging our experienced in-house teams who adhered to health and safety requirements. We strategically worked during off-peak hours to maximise efficiency and minimise disruption.
Methodology
We coordinated closely with local authorities and stakeholders to ensure full compliance with all regulatory requirements. Our team managed offsite civil permits and traffic management to facilitate smooth project execution. Key tasks included offsite civil excavations, sourcing and installing the necessary equipment, managing the point of connection excavation, backfilling and reinstatement, coordinating with the DNO, and providing detailed “as laid” records. This comprehensive methodology ensured that every aspect of the project was meticulously planned and executed, resulting in a successful and efficient delivery.
